1975 - THE GIFT IS GIVEN. While looking at this ad in a magazine, it suddenly struck me that the shadows on this model had shape! I'd never seen that before. I'd never been able to draw anything that didn't look like a cartoon before. But immediately I grabbed a pencil and paper and I began to draw what was now so clear to me. Though this first drawing didn't look like this girl, it DID look like a real person. The gift of artistic sight was given to me and gratefully received.
1975-2012 - OTHER CREATIVE OUTLETS Though I continued to hone my drawing skills over the next decades, I found little free time from my job teaching in junior and senior high school. But I discovered my need to create could be satisfied by how I chose to teach, so I had many outlets for my passion. Never having taken any art classes, I was not an art teacher, but rather spent most of my years teaching music and English and eventually building an extensive video production program called The Academy of Television and the Art of Film for a technology/performing arts magnet school in Ventura County, CA.
2012 - FREE AT LAST. FREE AT LAST. THANK GOD, ALMIGHTY, I'M FREE AT LAST! In June of 2012 I retired from teaching and started a life of exercise and health building. I began to study yoga and when the owner of the studio mentioned how much she enjoyed holding class outside at a local garden, I offered to paint a mural for her. She wanted it placed on a block wall behind the studio. Then I painted two giant lotus watermarks on the interior. From that work I was commissioned to paint five murals on the walls of The House of Fountains Boutique Inn in Lahaina, Hawaii. Now I'm waiting to paint or draw for you! .
